OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS), a vertically integrated
provider of specialized electronic products for critical
applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, today
announced that its Security division, Rapiscan Systems, has
received an order from the U.S. Transportation Security
Administration valued at approximately $25 million for multiple
units of its Secure 1000 Single Pose advanced checkpoint security
screening solution. The order is the first to be placed under the
terms of OSI’s recently awarded, $173M Indefinite Delivery,
Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the U.S. Transportation
Security Administration for Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT)
solutions.
The Secure 1000 Single Pose uses advanced backscatter technology
and proprietary image processing software to rapidly detect
potential threats that may be concealed on passengers at aviation
checkpoints. Following rigorous testing, TSA selected the Rapiscan
Secure 1000 Single Pose to be the first and to date only system
qualified under the AIT program. The Secure 1000 Single Pose
systems will be manufactured at OSI’s facility in Ocean Springs,
Mississippi.
OSI Systems Chairman and CEO, Deepak Chopra, stated: “We are
pleased to receive this first order for deployment of the Secure
1000 Single Pose solution at multiple airports throughout the
United States.” Mr. Chopra continued: “We look forward to assisting
TSA in fielding the Secure 1000 Single Pose to improve checkpoint
security and efficiency.”
The Secure 1000 Single Pose is designed to help security
officers detect potential threat objects concealed on passengers.
Using backscatter imaging technology and proprietary image
processing software, the system offers advantages over alternatives
such as metal detectors and hand searches, because it can rapidly
help security officers comprehensively detect non-metallic threats
and explosives, as well as metal objects. In addition, the system,
which complies with all U.S. government passenger privacy and
safety requirements, is configured to improve overall checkpoint
efficiency: to complete the scan, a passenger faces the Secure 1000
Single Pose while front and back scans are generated and within
seconds, a computer-aided image is presented for inspection,
thereby streamlining the screening process.
Rapiscan Systems President Ajay Mehra stated: “We appreciate the
confidence that TSA has demonstrated not only in the Secure 1000
Single Pose but also in Rapiscan’s program management,
manufacturing, service and logistics capabilities by placing this
significant first order.” Mr. Mehra continued: “Rapiscan Systems is
now the only security solution provider that can offer its
customers a TSA qualified advanced screening system, the Secure
1000 Single Pose; a TSA qualified Advanced Technology checkpoint
baggage screening system, the 620DV (Dual View) AT; and a TSA
qualified walk-through metal detector, the Metor 200 HDE.”
