Strategies - eBay, LookSmart and Netscape Veteran Brian Cowley
Joins InPhonic to Spearhead New Monetization Strategies and Lead
New Business Initiatives - WASHINGTON, Feb. 22
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- InPhonic, Inc. (NASDAQ:INPC), a leading
online seller of wireless phones and service plans, today announced
that it has appointed Internet advertising veteran Brian Cowley to
head new initiatives focusing on revenue opportunities created by
the tens of millions of people who visit the InPhonic family of
online brands each quarter and millions of consumers in its
database, most of which have opted-in to receive additional product
and service offers from InPhonic. Over the last five years,
InPhonic has generated considerable traffic through the growth of
InPhonic's company-owned Websites, as well as the partner and
affiliate sites that syndicate the Company's comprehensive
e-commerce platform of wireless services and products. After much
demand from InPhonic's partners and Internet advertisers, InPhonic
will now seek to leverage that traffic and offer select, targeted
programs for marketers who desire promotional opportunities within
the Company's expansive platform. To that end, the Company
recruited and appointed Brian Cowley as Executive Vice President to
spearhead these initiatives. Brian will be focusing on three main
areas: 1. Creating and offering unique marketing programs for
prospective InPhonic advertisers; 2. Increasing InPhonic's
distribution through the expansion of relationships with some of
the Company's portal partners as well as new partners; and, 3.
Creating unique co-operative marketing programs with InPhonic's
wireless carrier and product manufacturer partners. "InPhonic's
strategic vision is to build one of the most valuable advertising
alternatives for marketers that want to reach a targeted audience
of active online consumers. InPhonic has experienced significant
growth of our Website traffic over the past few years, and we
expect these new initiatives with Brian Cowley's vision to allow us
to monetize that traffic," said David A. Steinberg, Chairman and
CEO, InPhonic. "The online advertising market has grown
significantly and our new initiatives should allow us to leverage
our significant site traffic to benefit from it. We believe that
InPhonic's brands and online shopping destinations have become some
of the most recognized and trusted brands for consumers on the
Internet today, and in turn, have made them some of the most
visited sites on the Internet each month." InPhonic's new
interactive advertising initiatives will not violate its existing
privacy policies with its customers, and InPhonic will not sell any
consumer data to third party marketers. Through this new
initiative, InPhonic will seek to advertise and offer products and
services in a very tailored and targeted experience based on the
consumer's shopping behavior and Website navigation. Prior to
joining InPhonic, Brian Cowley held executive positions at leading
companies including LookSmart, eBay and Netscape. At LookSmart,
Cowley was a co-founder and Senior Vice President of Sales &
Business Development. He helped to build LookSmart from a start up
to a publicly traded company. Reporting to the CEO, he managed a
team of sales, revenue management, business development, product
and operations totaling 125 and grew revenues to over $110 million
annually. As the Vice President, General Manager of Sponsorship
& Services at eBay, Cowley was responsible for the business
initiative that included all advertising and service relationships
for the Company. Cowley began his Internet career at Netscape,
where he was Director of Business Development. He pioneered the
business development for the "Destinations" program which later
became the foundation for "NetCenter." Prior to Netscape, Cowley
spent thirteen years in the database marketing industry serving in
executive management, sales management and sales positions at SMI
(Santa Clara), Equifax and The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. He
has held a Board Member position with The Interactive Advertising
Bureau, has published research on Internet advertising and has been
a featured speaker at many industry conferences. About InPhonic
