Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a major supplier of precise time and frequency technologies, today announced the company will host the International Telecom Union’s Telecommunication Standard Sector (ITU-T) Study Group 15 on Monday, March 1 – Friday, March 5, 2010 at the company’s headquarters in San Jose, Calif. ITU-T Study Group 15, which examines optical transport networks and access network infrastructures for the global telecom community, will be discussing Question 13, which specifically addresses network synchronization and time distribution performance. Each year, the ITU-T produces numerous standards and recommendations, defining a broad range of principles that span topics from core network functionality and broadband to next generation services.

WHAT: ITU-T Study Group 15 Meeting at Symmetricom

WHEN: Monday, March 1 – Friday, March 5, 2010

WHERE: Symmetricom, Inc., 2300 Orchard Parkway, San Jose, California 95131

Network synchronization performance specifications are essential for successful operation and integration of digital transmission networks and associated switching and signaling systems. Question 13 has examined key issues regarding specifications and recommendations on network synchronization issues related to Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Optical Transport Network (OTN). Since 2004, the group has been examining issues related to synchronization and timing in packet-based networks. Current work includes the development of a telecom profile for IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and the study of packet timing architectures and metrics.

As leaders in the development of carrier-class synchronization technology, Symmetricom is a natural choice to host this meeting. Symmetricom is being represented by Lee Cosart, senior technologist, as well as Tim Frost, principal technologist. Mr. Cosart’s research and development activities include measurement algorithm development and mathematical analysis for a variety of test equipment for which he holds several patents. Mr. Frost specializes in next generation synchronization techniques and carrying real-time information over packet networks. ITU Study Group 15 includes participation from numerous organizations around the world.

Symmetricom will also have a technology exchange with key global customers to discuss advances and solution futures for IEEE 1588 PTP and other technologies.
