ANNAPOLIS, MD (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of
mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,353,289 for
"System For An Open Architecture Development Platform With
Centralized Synchronization." The patent describes a method and
apparatus that optimizes data transmission between data clients and
application servers, including mobile clients and those using
TCP/IP network protocols.
This TCS invention determines the most efficient way to transfer
data based on the size of the data payload and the characteristics
of the network protocols. Data payloads can be combined or divided
to fit into a maximum transmission unit (MTU), determined by the
size of the payload to be transmitted. This can be used to provide
higher, more efficient, and ultimately more cost-effective data
throughputs for fixed and wireless data transmission
applications.
"Optimizing the data transmission of fixed and mobile
applications allows an operator to achieve higher throughput rates
and enables a better user experience," said Drew Morin, Senior Vice
President and Chief Technical Officer for TCS. "By packet stuffing
the data packets, TCS' invention reduces the transmission overhead
and increases the data throughput."
The TCS patent portfolio contains 58 patents and over 190 patent
applications in the U.S. and abroad.
About The Invention
The "System For An Open Architecture Development Platform With
Centralized Synchronization" patent provides a method and an
apparatus for determining the maximum transmission packet that can
be sent utilizing network protocols such as Transmission Control
Protocol and the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Data payloads can be
combined into the maximum allowable transmission packet using
partial portions of a next payload.
