Four Seasons opens first Canadian resort in Whistler, B.C.
Year-Round Mountain Resort at the Site of the 2010 Olympic Winter
Games TORONTO, June 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today, Four
Seasons Hotels and Resorts opened its first mountain resort in
Canada, at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler, British
Columbia, site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The new 242-room
retreat is located in the heart of the largest ski area in North
America, just minutes from the slopes, year-round outdoor
adventures, fine dining, shopping and nightlife. "Couples, families
and business travellers can now experience the service, comfort and
luxury of a Four Seasons Resort in the heart of Whistler," said
Wolf Hengst, president worldwide hotel operations, Four Seasons
Hotels and Resorts. "Most people probably know Whistler as a ski
destination, but this time of year is truly magical in the
mountains, with the wildflowers growing in the valleys and the
picturesque lakes - a dramatic setting for the wide array of
summertime activities that Whistler has to offer." Swimming,
canoeing, white water rafting, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and
golf are just some of the diversions that make Whistler a popular
summer getaway. In the winter, the annual snowfall averages nine
metres, so guests of Four Seasons will find a paradise of skiing,
snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, sleigh rides
and more. The area boasts 3,307 hectares of skiable terrain, 33
lifts and more than 200 trails. Guests need only speak to the
Concierge to plan an outdoor adventure, no matter what the season.
Although Whistler is appealing to the outdoor enthusiast, guests
may be tempted to stay indoors to experience the luxury of Four
Seasons Resort Whistler. The design and architecture of the Resort
is inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and its emphasis on
high standards of craftsmanship and natural materials and finishes.
Guest rooms and suites are contemporary, with a lodge-like feel and
warm cherry-stained millwork, limestone floors and quartzite stone
bath walls. High ceilings, captivating views of the natural
surroundings and fireplaces make the guest room a welcoming
retreat. The Spa is designed as a relaxing oasis, decorated in
natural maple with smooth white stone accents. Treatment rooms
feature natural light in a private setting, and there is also a
workout room, fitness studio with mirrors and ballet barre,
whirlpools and a free-form outdoor pool that is open year-round.
The Fifty Two 80 Bistro and Bar has a warm, club-like atmosphere
with wood floors and paneling, fireplace, and comfortable sofas and
chairs. In summer and warmer days year-round, an adjacent terrace
invites guests to dine in the sun or under starry skies. Guests can
also enjoy complimentary coffee and tea every morning in the
Library Lounge. Just 80 miles or 120 kilometres from Vancouver,
guests of Four Seasons Resort Whistler may wish to plan a holiday
or business trip that also includes Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver,
located in the heart of the city. With a history spanning four
decades and a portfolio that extends worldwide, Four Seasons Hotels
and Resorts is the world's leading operator of luxury hotels,
currently managing 63 properties in 29 countries. This year, the
company has opened a hotel in Budapest in the historic Gresham
Palace on the banks of the Danube, its first resort in Costa Rica,
and its first European resort at Terre Blanche in Provence. Four
Seasons continues to grow, with more than 20 projects under
construction or development in choice locations around the world.
Later this year, the company will open new properties in Langkawi,
Malaysia and Hampshire, England. Four Seasons is the most honoured
luxury hotel company in the world with more of its hotels
designated as AAA Five Diamond properties than any other hotel
company and the most Mobil Five Star awards in the industry. The
company is also consistently highly ranked in readers' surveys in
