IdleAire Window Units Let Truckers Shut Down Engines without Shutting Off Accessories Siemens Wins $10 Million Agreement to Assemble Grid-Powered Systems that Provide Cool Air and Cool Services-- Plus Save Energy, Reduce Pollution KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Knoxville-based IdleAire Technologies announced today it is awarding Siemens Energy & Automation a $10 million agreement to assemble key components of its award-winning Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) system for the trucking industry. At its Electronics Manufacturing Center in Johnson City, Siemens will assemble the primary user input device, which provides thermostat control as well as email access and movie and TV choices. IdleAire's system is installed at facilities where long-haul diesel trucks congregate. Traditionally, drivers idle their trucks for extended periods to heat and cool their cabs. The ATE system allows truckers to shut off their rigs. The system works off the electrical grid, providing truck cabins with filtered air as well as access to the Internet and a range of entertainment options. IdleAire said the Siemens agreement was a first step in implementing plans for the rapid, nationwide deployment of its technology. Production is expected to start in May 2004. IdleAire shares revenue from use of the system with the property owner. Truck owners pay the cost of the system's basic services for drivers, which is less than the cost of idling the trucks. "The strategic alignment of IdleAire and Siemens gives us a highly capable, top-quality assembly partner who is able to ramp up to our aggressive implementation schedules," said IdleAire COO David Everhart. "Teaming two award-winning companies, IdleAire and Siemens, to play a key role in creating both cleaner air and jobs in Tennessee is another example of how 'green' means jobs for Tennessee," said Betsy Child, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
