Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), an industry leader in delivering
enterprise and mobile software, today released new product
offerings for the iPhone that extend enterprise functionality to
service both internal employees and external end users. The new
capabilities enable secure device management, rich application
development, as well as a complete solution for mobile banking.
With these releases, Sybase enables organizations to adopt iPhone
as a strategic platform.
Sybase’s new iPhone support includes key components of its
comprehensive, best-in-class mobile platform. Afaria® now provides
industry-leading enterprise device management and policy
enforcement for iPhone. SQL Anywhere® database and synchronization
technology now brings a proven, scalable way to extend information
in enterprise relational databases to line of business applications
running on iPhone devices. To meet the growing demand of consumers
for mobile banking solutions, the company announced availability of
its leading mobile banking iPhone application through the Sybase®
mBanking 365™ platform.
“While Apple has made significant progress in making the latest
version of iPhone enterprise-ready, there are still a number of
challenges in provisioning, management, security and application
enablement,” said Jack Gold, President of J.Gold Associates, LLC.
“To achieve true enterprise-class capability, companies should
deploy a comprehensive, open, third-party mobility platform capable
of filling these gaps. Solutions like Sybase’s mobility platform
not only support companies looking to proactively deploy iPhones
but also to respond to the rapidly growing population of
information workers bringing personally-owned smartphones into the
enterprise.”
“The popularity of the iPhone and speed at which it has entered
the workplace magnifies the challenges of managing and supporting
the growing diversity of device types in the enterprise,” said Mort
Rosenthal, CEO of Enterprise Mobile, a mobility systems integrator
and outsourcer. “Today's announcement exemplifies Sybase's proven
history of rapidly meeting customer demand through open,
best-in-class solutions. We are confident that our strategy and
enterprise mobility services are future-proof with Sybase.”
“We are significantly expanding our iPhone offerings with
advanced enterprise-ready features that are consistent with Apple’s
direction,” said Raj Nathan, SVP and CMO, Sybase. “As an increasing
number of consumers bring personal smartphones into the enterprise,
there is a greater need to extend high levels of application
performance, functionality and security to a wider range of mobile
devices. Sybase continues to deliver the technology that customers
require to fully embrace mobility within their enterprises.”

enterprise-ready, strategic platform, Sybase offers the following
