EVERETT, Wash., and BLACKWOOD, N.J., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a move to drive continued development and deployment of state-of-the-art RFID systems and to accelerate adoption of RFID, Intermec Technologies Corp. and Metrologic Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ:MTLG) today announced an agreement to cross-license portions of their RFID intellectual property portfolios. Metrologic also has joined Intermec's Rapid Start Licensing Program, gaining full access to a number of Intermec portfolios of patented RFID technology, including RFID tags, fixed and portable readers, and fixed and portable printers, along with the ability to manufacture products with the RFID capabilities and functionality end-user customers most demand. Through the cross-license agreement, Intermec will have access to Metrologic's patented technology related to RFID. Intermec holds more than 145 RFID patents covering broad areas of UHF supply chain RFID practice and applications. Its patents cover all standards and classes for international practice of RFID, including Class 0, Class 0+, Class 1, UHF Generation 2, ISO and others. The company's 90-day Rapid Start Licensing Program, available for a limited time, through Aug. 31, is designed to open access to Intermec's current and future RFID technology innovations and to clearly indicate to the marketplace which manufacturers and vendors are licensed to use Intermec's patented RFID technologies. "This agreement between two leading companies in the auto id industry is not only a recognition of the value of our respective intellectual property portfolios but also provides a framework for the parties to continue to develop RFID products and technology in a manner that is beneficial to customers and the industry as a whole," said Metrologic CEO and President, Benny Noens. "The ratification of the Gen 2 standard earlier this year is a good indication of where the broad market for RFID products is headed and served as the catalyst for our interest in Intermec's IP portfolio. We believe the Rapid Start program is well constructed for companies like Metrologic, whose customer base can benefit from access to broad AutoID product portfolio from a single supplier, including RFID-enabled data capture and collection devices. We look forward to becoming a more visible member of the RFID community with this agreement in place." About Intermec Intermec Technologies Corp., a UNOVA Inc.
