Los Angeles Times Names Jack Klunder to Lead Circulation Department
LOS ANGELES, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Times has
named veteran newspaper circulation executive Jack D. Klunder as
its new senior vice president, circulation, effective April 11.
Klunder will be responsible for all aspects of circulation sales
and distribution for The Times. Klunder brings to his new position
some 25 years of experience in every phase of circulation
operations and management. He comes to The Times from the Los
Angeles Newspaper Group, where he worked for the past five years as
senior vice president, circulation for the group of eight Southern
California suburban newspapers. His background also includes 20
years in The Times' circulation department, where he was the
director of circulation from 1988 to 1996. During those years The
Times first became the largest metropolitan daily in the country
and reached its all-time highs in both daily and Sunday
circulation. He started with The Times in 1976 as a single copy
driver/inserter, and between then and 1988 he held various staff
and management positions in the circulation department. "Jack is a
proven circulation executive who knows this market and all aspects
of newspaper circulation extremely well," said Jeff Johnson,
executive vice president and general manager, who will become
president, publisher and chief executive officer of The Times on
June 1. "He also has a keen understanding of The Times' unique
place in the Southern California media landscape. This is a potent
combination of skills and experience to lead our circulation growth

also includes being a founding partner of Equant Marketing Group,
LLC, and director of sales and marketing for Financial Management
Control of Arizona, Inc. In addition to attending the UCLA Anderson
School of Management Executive Program, Klunder studied business
management at Pepperdine University. Klunder will report to
incoming Times Executive Vice President and General Manager David
P. Murphy. The Los Angeles Times, a Tribune Publishing company, is
the largest metropolitan daily newspaper in the country and the
winner of 37 Pulitzer Prizes, including two this year. The Times
publishes five daily regional editions, including the Los Angeles
metropolitan area, Orange and Ventura counties, the San Fernando
Valley, and an Inland Empire edition covering Riverside and San
