iPerceptions Inc. (TSX-V: IPE), a leading provider of web-focused
Voice of Customer (VoC) analytics based on actual visitor feedback,
today announced the release of its Automotive Industry Report for
Q1 2011. The report shows that a greater number of visitors to
automotive websites will purchase a new vehicle in the next six
months. The sales would provide additional revenue for an industry
that recently returned to profitability in 2010.
iPerceptions' report shows that visitors who said they plan to
purchase a new vehicle in the next six months rose from 49.5% in Q4
2010 to 51.7% in Q1 2011. The sales increase is expected as a
result of consumers replacing aging vehicles kept during the worst
of the 2008-2009 recession and lenders, who held back on financing,
emerging more prepared to relax lending criteria.
Based off of this data, automakers will need to ensure that
their websites offer streamlined navigation and a reduction in the
number of clicks required to access information, enabling visitors
to easily find what they are looking for. The report shows that
visitors who are close to purchase are more demanding when it comes
to finding information online that is important to them when making
a vehicle purchase.
"Making it easier to access detailed information online, such as
inventory visibility, is paramount in order to secure additional
visits to dealers, more requests for quotes and ultimately, a
greater number of vehicle sales," said Claude Guay, President and
CEO of iPerceptions.
Other important findings from the report include:
- Visitors' overall task completion increased from 66.3% in Q4
2010 to 69.8% in Q1 2011
- The interest in luxury vehicles increased from 19.8% in Q4 2010
to 23.7% in Q1 2011
- Researching price continues to represent the most important
reason for visiting an automotive website, at 32.6%, followed by
comparing models at 12.1% and comparing brands at 5.8%
- The ability to find desired information was found to have the
greatest influence on overall site satisfaction for in-market
visitors in Q1 2011
The report analyzes real-time feedback from more than 56,000
people visiting 18 North American automotive brand websites and
17,000 people visiting 85 international automotive retail websites
to identify the most important issues and trends facing the
industry.
