German new car registrations dropped 11% on the year in September, but were down only 2% on a holiday-adjusted basis, international vehicle manufacturing association VDIK said Tuesday.

MAIN FACTS:

-New car registrations fell 11% on the year to 250,000 units in September, VDIK said.

-In the first nine months of 2012, new car registrations in Germany fell 1.8% on the year to 2.36 million units, supported by diesel-fuelled cars.

-Diesel motor registrations rose 1.5% on the year in the January-September period, accounting for 48% of new registrations.

-"New registrations of diesel cars continue to stabilize the market," VDIK said.
