The Daiwa Bank , Limited ("the Bank") has announced today that Sanyo Securities
Co. Ltd ("the Company"), one of the Bank's customers, filed a petition seeking
a judgement for corporate reorganization under Kaisah-Kosei-ho (Corporate
Reorganization Law) and the affiliates of the Company filed voluntary
bankruptcy.

Impact on the Bank's financial condition

The Bank makes provision for possible losses incurred from the loans to the
Company and its affiliates in fiscal year 1997.

Full year earnings forecast for fiscal 1997 (April 1, 1997 - March 31, 1998)
will be announced together with the interim financial results.
