New Contract Award
ALPHA Airports Group Plc, the airline support services operator, has won major
new contracts worth at least #15m from Mexicana Airlines to manage sales
reservation and passenger services operations in the US.
The new contracts take ALPHA's ground handling subsidiary, DynAir, into sales
reservation services, a new field of activity which complements existing
services such as passenger handling and aircraft refuelling.
The Mexicana contract includes the operation of its reservation sales centre
for the US, based at San Antonio, Texas, handling reservations from the
general public as well as liaison with the retail travel industry and travel
agencies across the US. In addition, at eight airports in the US, DynAir will
provide traditional airport-related functions including ticket counter check-
in, passenger handling, VIP lounge operations, Customs & Immigration liaison
and baggage handling.
DynAir is the largest ground handling operator in the US outside of the major
airlines, and has been successfully growing its passenger services operations
for many years. DynAir's turnover in the 1996-7 financial year was #104m.
Commenting on the contract award, Kevin Abbott, Chief Executive of ALPHA,
said:
"This is a significant breakthrough for ALPHA and for DynAir. By
broadening DynAir's offering in this way we can see significant
opportunities for enhancing growth."
