SOUTH ASIA TSUNAMI EFFECTS
Alpha Airports Group Plc (Alpha) confirms that all our 289 staff in Sri Lanka
and the Maldives have survived the Tsunami disaster. Unfortunately, in Sri
Lanka, many of our staff have lost close relatives and their homes, and our
thoughts are with them at this tragic time. We are in the process of setting up
an Alpha Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Fund to help begin the reconstruction of lost
homes.
Clearly the Sri Lankan and Maldivian tourism industries will be seriously
affected over the coming months, with a significant knock-on effect on Alpha's
duty free business. In addition, Alpha may incur some credit losses on domestic
liquor sales to hotels in both Sri Lanka and the Maldives. We anticipate a loss
of profit of up to #1 million during the remainder of the current year, ending
31 January 2005. Alpha will give an up-dated assessment of the effect of this
event on the current year and 2005/6's results at our pre-close announcement on
28 January 2005.
