In our capacity as London Secretaries to Southvaal we wish to advise you, as
required by chapter 17, paragraph 33(b) of the 'Listing Rules', that during
the week ended 26 September 1997 Southvaal became aware of the following
reportable changes to shareholdings. These changes are as a result of the
decision to transfer shares from the names of nominees holders into the names
of beneficial holders.

Resident Nominees Limited decreased from from 15.41% to Nil

Anglo American Gold Investment Company Limited increased from below 5% to
16.34%
