                         CASH SHARE BUYBACK

Brierley Investments Limited announces that it acquired 99,979,283 ordinary
shares under its on market cash buyback which commenced on 13 September 1999. 
The shares were acquired through the order matching market of the New Zealand
Stock Exchange and have been cancelled.  The buyback has now closed and the
notice of acquisition, dated 7 September 1999, is cancelled.
