               ELECTION OF SELWYN CUSHING AS CHAIRMAN
           APPOINTMENT OF HON PHILIP BURDON AS A DIRECTOR

Brierley Investments Limited (BIL) announces that following the Annual Meeting
held earlier today the Board reappointed Mr Selwyn Cushing as a Director and
also elected him as Chairman of the Board.  Mr Cushing will act as Executive
Chairman of the Company pending the appointment of a new Chief Executive
Officer.

BIL also announces that the Board has appointed the Hon Philip Burdon as a
director of the Company.  Mr Burdon is widely respected as being one of New
Zealand's most distinguished politicians and successful businessmen.  He was a
senior Cabinet Minister in the National Government from 1990 until his
retirement at the time of the 1996 election where he held key trade and commerce
portfolios.  Mr Burdon also formulated the Asia 2000 programme.

Mr Burdon is a director of several public and private companies.
