Change of Accounting Reference Date

The Board of Chemetall PLC announces a change of Year-End accounting reference
date to 31 December.

This change in accounting reference date brings Chemetall PLC's financial year
into alignment with that of its ultimate parent mg technologies AG.

Chemetall PLC will publish audited financial statements up to 30 September 2002.
The Company will then have a long accounting period of fifteen months to 31
December 2003 and thereafter to each 31 December.
