M&G High Income Investment Trust P.L.C. (M&G HIT) announces that on 30 April
2004 it purchased and cancelled 200,000 M&G HIT Package Units at a price of
100.5p per Package Unit. This represents 0.37% of M&G HIT's issued share
capital.

To date, a total of 600,000 Package Units have been purchased and cancelled by M
&G HIT resulting in a current issued share capital of 53,552,179 Zero Dividend
Preference Shares, 53,552,179 Income Shares and 53,552,179 Capital Shares.
