MERGER CLEARANCE:

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has decided, on the information
at present before him, and in accordance with the recommendation of the
Director General of Fair Trading, not to refer the following mergers to the
Competition Commission under the provisions of the Fair Trading Act 1973:

PROPOSED ACQUISITION BY MENZOLIT-FIBRON GMBH OF THE COMPOUNDS DIVISION OF DSM
RESINS BV, NAMELY DSM COMPOUNDS UK LIMITED.

PROPOSED ACQUISITION BY ROYAL LONDON MUTUAL INSURANCE SOCIETY LTD OF UNITED
ASSURANCE GROUP plc.
