Global leader in content delivery streamlines
website management for its own multilingual web properties to
deliver improved customer experience and reduce internal costs
SDL (LSE: SDL) today announced that Akamai, the global leader in
content delivery network services, has rebuilt its corporate
website and increased the effectiveness of its multilingual
marketing efforts by leveraging SDL’s web and language technologies
alongside specialized language services.
Akamai revolutionizes how businesses optimize the delivery of
consumer, enterprise and entertainment experiences for any device,
and its web presence is instrumental in demonstrating the value of
its services. The company had previously been managing its
corporate site in-house and had been using a third-party to manage
translated regional sites through a translation proxy solution. To
gain more control and to leverage the digital channel to the
fullest, Akamai invested in bringing all of the sites in-house on
an enterprise CMS.
To streamline web marketing across all sites, Akamai turned to
SDL. The company selected SDL Web and SDL WorldServer – SDL’s web
experience management and translation management technologies – to
create an end-to-end content ecosystem. SDL’s technology
streamlines the processes of creating marketing content,
translating it for global audiences and publishing it to the global
web properties.
Akamai also named SDL as their preferred translation services
provider, gaining access to SDL’s expert project management team
and network of in-house, in-country translators to drive a high
volume of accurate, consistent translations. Additionally, the
company leverages SDL’s linguistic testing and multimedia
subtitling services.
“As a global company, it’s important that we not only
communicate with our audiences in each country, but have the
ability to do so consistently and efficiently,” said Rebecca
Murtagh, Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Brand, Akamai.
“With SDL, we have a CMS that allows us to more efficiently drive
our digital marketing strategy across the globe while also reducing
costs.”
Following the implementation of the SDL solution and the July
2015 launch of a new global website, Akamai has experienced many
benefits, including:
- Managing their multilingual website,
translated into seven languages, now takes less effort and produces
higher quality results with SDL Web and its adaptive BluePrinting®
technology
- Using SDL Web’s embedded translation
automation capabilities, powered by SDL WorldServer, English web
content can now be routed for translation, approved and published
to regional sites all from within the website CMS interface, adding
to improved efficiencies and eliminating arduous, error prone copy
and paste activities
- Leveraging translation memory provides
hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in translation cost
savings, while delivering more consistent messaging
- Confidence in the quality and
consistency of the translated content being delivered to global
audiences
“As customers increasingly engage with brands through digital
channels, global content has become the backbone of personalized
customer experiences,” said Adolfo Hernandez, CEO, SDL. “We’re
honored to partner with a global organization like Akamai, helping
them master the complexity of global web content management and
streamline their content ecosystem to ensure seamless customer
communications.”
Armed with a more efficient and nimble approach for managing its
digital properties, Akamai has future plans to continue improving
its digital customer experience and content ecosystem. The company
plans to deploy SDL Web’s Experience Optimization capability to
deliver personalized experiences relevant to each visitor’s
context. Akamai also plans to integrate SDL Knowledge Center
structured content technology for technical documentation,
resulting in an end-to-end, global dynamic content creation and
delivery system.
