PR Newswire (US)
HONG KONG, Nov. 14 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hong Kong
Broadband Network Limited ("HKBN"), a wholly owned subsidiary of
City Telecom (HK) Limited (HKEx: 1137; Nasdaq: CTEL), today
launched a follow-up marketing campaign to the widely discussed
First-Wave marketing campaign that featured characters squeezing
into a thin tube to represent how the largest network operator is
still providing broadband internet services through its phone
lines. HKBN expands on the humorous approach with even more bizarre
characters to deliver more elaborated messages. The Second-Wave
marketing campaign involves two different TV Commercials featuring
the inventor of the Telephone in a traditional Chinese Hell, as
well as a gang of Kung-Fu-Fighting-Ants. In one TVC, Alexander
Graham BELL -- inventor of the Telephone, makes a "special-guest"
appearance pointing out the fact that his over 100 years old
Telephone line invention wasn't designed for today's Broadband
connections. This is set in a traditional Chinese Hell like
environment to imply the hellish experience of surfing the Internet
with a slow connection. In the other TVC, 10 Kung-Fu-Fighting-Ants,
representing the downlink in a traditional ADSL broadband
connection, are shown ganging up on a single helpless Ant, who
represents the weaker uplink, demonstrating how traditional ADSL
services typically offers uplink bandwidth that is only a 10th of
the downlink capacity. To view the Television Commercials, please

part of a multi-dimensional Marketing Campaign that included comic
like Print Ads, MTR Plasma TV advertisements, radio ads as well as
a dedicated mini-website with various downloadable promotions.
Pleased with the success of the First Wave Campaign, Chairman of
HKBN, Ricky Wong, said, "We believe it is important for the public
to be well informed about the broadband services they are paying
for, while there are still many whom are unaware for the
asymmetrical nature of the service they are signing up to, HKBN
hopes to educate and inform through humor with unforgettable
characters and simple facts, and we believe we are achieving that."
