CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT
Friday, 6 June 2003
At today's Annual General Meeting of Chorion PLC all resolutions were passed.
Chairman of the Group, Waheed Alli, said:
"I am very pleased to be able to highlight for shareholders some of the
continuing good news that will enable us to comfortably deliver our growth plans
for this year.
The first four TV films to be made under our new ground breaking 16 film Agatha
Christie output deal with ITV are now confirmed as Death on the Nile, Sad
Cypress, The Hollow and Five Little Pigs. All four will star David Suchet as
Hercule Poirot and production will begin on 7th July 2003.
The transformation of Noddy into an enduring pre-school property continues
apace. The new computer generated Noddy TV series on Five remains one of the
most popular pre-school children's programmes on UK television - regularly
attracting over half a million viewers. This excellent performance has fuelled
significant retail interest in Noddy merchandise for the all important second
half of this year. We are particularly pleased to have commitments from Argos,
Boots, Early Learning Centre, Mothercare, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Toys R Us and
Woolworths. We have used Noddy's strong showing to attract major toy companies
to vie for a European Master Toy Licence. We expect to announce the successful
bidder imminently. With all of this exciting activity, we are confident that
Noddy will have a very strong Christmas 2003.
The international roll out of Noddy continues to gather real momentum. In
France the new series has launched on French terrestrial broadcaster, France 5.
In its first 6 weeks on air, Noddy has gained a very strong audience share of
35% amongst the key 4 to 9 year old group. We now have over 35 product
categories licensed in France and have commitments from all of the key retailers
including Auchan, Carrefour, Casino, FNAC and Leclerc.
These are just some of the highlights. I am very pleased with the progress we
have made this year and the growth that this will bring to the company and its
valuable brands both in 2003 and in the years ahead."
