Pixology signs licensing agreement with Canon Inc
London, UK Pixology plc (LSE:PIX), the digital photography software expert,
today announced it has signed a two-year agreement with Canon Inc's digital
camera group to supply Pixology IRISSTM - the company's patent-pending red-eye
removal technology.
Pixology IRISSTM (Intelligent Red-Eye Imaging Software Solution) will be
distributed with the majority of Canon Inc's extensive range of imaging
products.
Latest figures show that Canon had 18.2 percent* of the global market for
digital cameras.
Pixology also recently signed a deal with Canon's printer group to bundle
IRISSTM with Canon Bubble Jet printers.
As part of the deal announced today, Pixology IRISSTM will be supplied as a
Software Developers Toolkit (SDK) for both Apple Mac and PCs, and will be
integrated with Canon's software products that are bundled with its digital
cameras, and as a value add feature for online applications.
It is estimated that, on average, only 20 per cent of digital images captured
actually make it to print. The correction of red-eye in these images is expected
to increase this percentage.
Yuval Yashiv, CEO of Pixology plc, said:
"The flexibility and effectiveness of our technology has once again been
recognised by Canon and we are delighted that the company has decided not only
to bundle Pixology IRISSTM technology with its Bubble Jet printers, but also to
incorporate it with most of its digital cameras.
We are hoping that Pixology IRISSTM will set the standard for automatic red-eye
removal from digital pictures. Canon's adoption of this technology across most
of its digital imaging products is a major step towards achieving our goal."
Hiro Hashimura, General Manager, Digital Imaging Marketing Management Division
of Canon Inc said:
"Canon has always been committed to improving the quality of the digital image
experience for end users. By being able to offer a fully automatic red-eye
removal solution, we gain a key differentiator over our competitors.
Pixology's IRISSTM technology is one way in which we are currently enhancing our
product range, which will help facilitate a better digital image experience for
end users."
