France Telecom (FTE) could eventually sell minority stakes it currently holds in Austrian and Portuguese telecom operators as the group is in the process of reviewing its European asset portfolio, Chief Executive Stephane Richard said Tuesday.

"We have minority stakes both in Austria and Portugal. We're not necessarily going to sell them now but it is not in our interest to keep those forever," Richard told reporters on the sidelines of the eG8 forum in Paris.

France Telecom is currently reviewing its European portfolio and Richard has previously said that the group could sell assets in some countries such as Austria.

The group will outline more details about the European asset review at its investor day in Paris next Tuesday.

France Telecom currently holds around 35% of Orange Austria as part of a consortium with Mid Europa Partners while it also holds a minority stake in Portuguese operator Sonaecom SGPS SA (SNC.LB).
