Dollar Rises To 5-day High Versus South African Rand

Against its South African counterpart, the U.S. dollar surged up
in early New York deals on Tuesday. The greenback rose to a 5-day
high of 7.2914 versus the rand as of 6:30 am ET from last week's
multi-year low of 7.1535. As of now, the dollar is worth
7.2736.
South Africa's business confidence indicator increased in
August, a report by the South African Chamber of Commerce and
Industry or SACCI showed today.
The business confidence index rose to 87.6 in August from 84.3
in the previous month. This was the highest reading in 2010. A year
earlier, the sentiment index was 83.
Among the sub indicators, nine out of the thirteen indices
improved in August from the previous month, two were negative and
two were neutral, the SACCI said. The sub indicators include retail
sales, inflation, exports and imports and financial gauges
including the stock index and the currency, among others.
