Excillum & Bruker AXS Announce Collaboration to Develop X-ray Diffraction Solutions based on Novel Extremely Bright X-ray Source

Excillum and Bruker AXS today announced an exclusive
collaboration to develop and market a unique new metal-jet X-ray
source for X-ray diffraction applications. This novel source is the
fruit of many years of research at the Royal Institute of
Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. It is more than ten times brighter
than the most powerful laboratory sources available. This
unequalled brightness can greatly benefit any experiment that
currently employs a rotating anode generator (RAG) source. Despite
this unparalleled performance, the new source also features a cost
of ownership which is very competitive with conventional RAG
technology. Applications of interest include protein structure
determination via X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray
scattering (SAXS and GI-SAXS) and all experiments where ultra-high
X-ray flux on a small spot is essential.
Dr. Oscar Hemberg, CEO of Excillum, noted: “We are excited to
work with Bruker AXS, a world leader in X-ray diffraction, to bring
this new technology to the market. We believe the unprecedented
brightness of this new source will allow researchers to bring many
experiments, which previously could only be accomplished at a
synchrotron beamline, into the home laboratory.”
“We are looking forward to combining Excillum’s cutting-edge
source technology with Bruker AXS’ comprehensive and best-in-class
new product platform for X-ray diffraction,” said Dr. Frank
Burgaezy, Co-President of Bruker AXS. “This winning combination
will open the doors to new laboratory applications for many
researchers around the globe.”
