Bruker has received the UK’s largest ever single order for EPR
(electron paramagnetic resonance) instrumentation, a $3 million
purchase by the University of Manchester. Bruker will supply a
range of performance-leading multi-frequency pulsed and CW EPR
systems that will form the basis of the improved EPSRC UK National
EPR Service, based at the University. The range of advanced
systems, from S- to W-band EPR, will enable researchers throughout
the UK to study a variety of paramagnetic research topics, from
inorganic metal complexes, through polymer and materials science
applications, to various biochemical and drug metabolic pathways.
Funding has been granted by the EPSRC and service provision will be
supported by the University.

David Collison, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the
University’s School of Chemistry, said: ”In recent years we have
seen developments in the applications fields of EPR and this
facility will be able to address these new applications areas and
advance the use of EPR in a range of studies.”
“With this enhanced capability, The University of Manchester
will be at the forefront of EPR development in the UK and will
provide a hub for all researchers to expand their knowledge and
usage of various CW and pulsed EPR methodologies,” added Eric
McInnes, Professor at the School of Chemistry.
Dr Peter Hoefer, Director for EPR at Bruker, commented: “This is
a very exciting time for the UK EPR community. The UK has always
been a focal point for EPR globally, and this enhanced facility
will increase the momentum for EPR research in the UK even further.
Bruker is very pleased to support this world-class facility.”
