Engineered Support Earns $14.8 Million Contract for Environmental Control Units from the U.S. Air Force ST. LOUIS, May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:EASI) received a $14.8 million contract to produce 1,388 Field Deployable Environmental Control Units (FDECU) in support of the U.S. Air Force's BEAR [Basic Expeditionary Airfield Resources] Program. The sole-source letter contract, with initial obligated funding of $7.4 million, provides for production of the FDECUs in conjunction with BEAR systems the Air Force will field over the next year, according to Engineered Support Systems Vice Chairman and CEO Gerald A. Potthoff. The FDECU is a 60,000 BTU field environmental control unit designed to provide temperature control in environments ranging from -25F to +125F. It is used in base camps for heating and cooling shelters, Potthoff explained. "FDECUs support the Air Force's BEAR mobility equipment sets, better known as Harvest Falcon and Harvest Eagle. The Harvest Falcon and Eagle sets are designed and sized to provide -- from the ground up -- all of the billeting, industrial, and airfield capability needed for more than 68,000 combat troops and 800 aircraft to operate in austere locations," he said. "The experience and expertise our subsidiary, Keco Industries, provides to the Engineered Support team is a key reason why we are able to lead the way in providing advanced sustainment solutions to American warfighters and our allies -- we have supplied more than 17,000 FDECUs to the U.S. military to date," Potthoff said. Engineered Support Systems, Inc. provides advanced sustainment solutions including the design, manufacture and supply of integrated military electronics, support equipment and technical and logistics services for all branches of America's armed forces and certain foreign militaries, homeland security forces and selected government and intelligence agencies. The company also produces specialized equipment and systems for commercial and industrial applications.
