PR Newswire (US)
CRANBERRY, Pa., July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Penn Telecom, Inc. (PTI)
today announced that it has completed deployment of an advanced
broadband communications platform to serve PNC Park and the media
attendees covering Major League Baseball's All-Star Game in
Pittsburgh, PA on July 11th. "The volume of communications traffic
generated by the coverage of an All- Star Game simply overwhelms
the standard telecom facilities of a major league ballpark," said
Penn Telecom's president, Frank Macefe. "In this era of instant
global communications and rich-media content, the demand for
additional network connectivity to support an All-Star game
requires a rapid- deployment broadband solution. It was for
precisely this sort of requirement that Penn Telecom designed and
built its high performance network." The backbone of the
communications solution for the All-Star Game is a fiber optic
cable connecting PNC Park to Penn Telecom's optical broadband
network. The fiber access facility will deliver 2.5 Gigabits per
second of bandwidth capacity to several hundred voice and broadband
communications lines serving the working media who will cover the
July 7th-11th event. Major League Baseball (MLB) and the host
Pittsburgh Pirates expect nearly 500 electronic and print media
members to descend upon the city for the 77th edition of MLB's
"Mid-Summer Classic." Penn Telecom believes it is the first
regional, competitive telecommunications provider to supply the
entire communications infrastructure for a sporting event with
global exposure. Among the broadcast entities utilizing PTI
communication services are FOX Sports, ESPN, and Major League
Baseball International, along with radio and television media from
Japan, Canada, and Latin America. About Penn Telecom, Inc. Penn
