Opinion Research Corporation Study Finds That Most Americans Stay
Close to Home PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Despite the size and diversity of the United States, more than half
of Americans choose to live within a short drive of where they grew
up, according to a recent study by Opinion Research Corporation
(NASDAQ:ORCI). A majority of American adults (54%) live less than
50 miles from where they spent most of their time growing up,
including one in four (26%) who live less than ten miles from where
they spent most of their early years. Only 21% of Americans live
500 miles away or more. Confirming images of seniors moving to
warmer climates for retirement, less than half of those 55 and
older live within 50 miles of where they grew up (46%), compared
with 58% of younger Americans. Adults in the West are the most
mobile, with only 39% within 50 miles of where they grew up,
compared with 59% in the rest of the country. In addition, the more
education someone has, the more likely they are to be further away
from home. Only 43% of Americans with a college degree are within
50 miles of where they spent most of their time growing up,
compared with 53% of those with some college education and 65% of
Americans with a high school education or less. "Approximately how
