Investor Journal Newspaper for the Retail Investor Market in China is Launched Today
29 April 2008 - 12:25AM
PR Newswire (US)
BEIJING, April 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XFMedia
(NASDAQ:XFML), a leading media group in China, announced that The
Investor Journal was launched today. Investor Journal is a new
Chinese weekly newspaper aimed at the large and growing retail
investor market in China. The Chinese language newspaper, modeled
on weekly financial publications such as Barron's, is headed by
chief editor Zhao Li, one of the founding team of the influential
Economic Observer in China. The retail investor market in China is
significant in size. According to China Securities Depository and
Clearing Corporation Limited, there were 96 million active
brokerage accounts in March 2008. The Investor Journal targets the
top end of this group -- investors with more than one million RMB
in liquid assets. To date, there is no other publication of this
kind in China. The paper has nationwide distribution and is aimed
at sophisticated investors looking for in-depth market research,
fundamental analysis and reliable information. The newspaper has
attracted a strong team of journalists and columnists from other
Chinese financial media and the international investment community.
XFMedia CEO Fredy Bush said this is an excellent opportunity to tap
into a well-defined demographic with a differentiated publication.
"We see significant commercial opportunities in the print sector in
China. We look to capitalize on our positioning in the same way we
did with the Economic Observer newspaper, as Investor Journal will
make use of XFMedia's strong advertising sales capability," said Ms
Bush. "Unlike mature markets in the West, print media remains very
strong in China as evidenced by the results of our profitable print
division in 2007." "Currently, we believe there is no newspaper in
China which delivers to investors truly trustworthy financial
market information emphasizing in-depth analysis, reliable data
combined with an international perspective," said Zhao Li, chief
editor of Investor Journal. "We are filling a gap and providing
investors with solid content helping them with their long-term
investment decisions." Headquartered in Beijing, with news bureaus
in Shenzhen and Shanghai where the stock exchanges are located, the
newspaper currently has about 60 staff in total, among which 12 are
analysts. "A dedicated analyst team working for a newly established
newspaper is not common in the industry, which indicates how we
value in-depth and reliable analysis," added Zhao. "Investor
Journal provides a must read publication to investors during
weekends after the hectic trading hours to review and design their
long-term investment strategy, rather than leaning on speculation
or gut feeling. We are confident that the newspaper will make a
difference in China and bring readers a rational voice in an
overwhelming and heated market." About Xinhua Finance Media Xinhua
