Educators' Children Awarded $50,000 in Horace Mann's National
Scholarship Competition SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 31
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Horace Mann Scholarship Program has
awarded $50,000 in college scholarships to 26 high school seniors
who are the children of U.S. public or private education employees.
The program named Ann Chi of Terre Haute, Indiana as its 2004
Horace Mann Scholar. Chi, a senior at Terre Haute South Vigo High
School, will receive a four-year, $10,000 scholarship for her
tuition, fees and educational expenses at the college of her
choice. Horace Mann has recognized five other students for their
educational achievements by awarding each a four-year, $4,000
scholarship. They are: -- Siena Koncsol, Davie, FL (St. Thomas
Aquinas) -- Drew Matteson, Amarillo, TX (Randall High School) --
Zhipeng Sun, Pittsburgh, PA (Fox Chapel Area High School) -- Daniel
Turk, Canton, MS (Madison Central High School) -- Leiwen Wu, San
Antonio, TX (Winston Churchill High School) In addition, the
program has awarded twenty $1,000 scholarships to the following

High School) The Horace Mann Scholarship Program was open to high
school seniors who are children or legal dependents of U.S. public
or private education employees. Applicants must have at least a "B"
average and score at least 23 on the ACT or 1,100 on the SAT.
Students are asked to submit an essay, grade transcript, list of
activities and honors, and two letters of recommendation. The
program has granted over $500,000 in scholarships to educators'
