High-volume court system values Odyssey’s
flexibility and Tyler’s proven success with complex projects
Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) has signed a contract with
Harris County, Texas, to implement Tyler’s Odyssey® court case
management system in 16 justice of the peace courts. Odyssey will
replace the courts’ legacy system for all case types, including
civil, criminal and traffic as well as various magisterial
functions and administrative proceedings. Harris County is the
third most populous county in the U.S., with 4.2 million residents,
and is home to the city of Houston.
The 16 Harris County Justice Courts operate as a high-volume
system and require a powerful yet flexible court case management
system like Odyssey. The system will serve approximately 400 users,
including up to 250 concurrent users during peak periods. Together,
the 16 Harris County Justice Courts form one of the largest justice
of the peace jurisdictions in the U.S., accepting more than 500,000
new case filings each year.
In addition to core Odyssey functionality Harris County chose to
implement Odyssey SessionWorks® Judge and Clerk editions to
streamline high-volume courts and present case information on the
bench via touch-screen technology. Tyler’s public access portal
will provide case records and court dockets via the Justice Courts
website, and will integrate with the county’s existing e-commerce
system for online payments of fines, fees and court costs.
Odyssey also met Harris County’s objective of finding a turnkey
court case management system that allows modifications while still
easily integrating with existing applications.
“Odyssey is a very strong product today, and Tyler’s commitment
to an evergreen approach of advancing it in the future creates
significant advantages for Harris County,” said Bret Dixon, chief
operating officer of Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division.
“Additionally, Tyler's successful track record of completing large
and complex implementations offered tremendous value and peace of
mind to the county's decision-makers.”
Tyler has proven its ability to meet similar needs in complex
projects, including statewide Odyssey implementations and other
high-volume jurisdictions such as Clark County, Nevada, home to Las
Vegas, as well as Miami-Dade County. Odyssey was also recently
selected by the Los Angeles Superior Court, which is the largest
court system in the U.S.
In total, Odyssey serves more than 100 million residents, a
third of the U.S. population, in more than 600 counties across 21
states. Odyssey has been successfully deployed statewide in
Indiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota and
South Dakota; statewide implementations in Idaho, Maryland, Oregon,
Rhode Island and Washington are currently underway.
