DETROIT, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The DTE Energy Foundation is
accepting applications for its Energy & Our World Mini-grants
for Educators program. The program has awarded more than $750,000
since 1990 to teachers statewide to fund energy-related projects
that encourage students' curiosity and excitement about energy,
science, math and the environment. "These grants provide teachers
with funding for special projects that school budgets typically
cannot afford," said Carol Moore, DTE Energy Education and
Community Relations representative. "Last year, the DTE Energy
Foundation awarded 113 grants to Michigan teachers for a wide array
of creative projects that helped students better understand energy
and the energy industry." Teachers of grades K-12 in public,
non-public and charter schools within DTE Energy's service
territory may apply for the grants. Recipients will be selected by
a panel of education personnel, who will look for the best
interdisciplinary projects that incorporate problem-solving,
decision-making and critical thinking skills. "We're especially
interested in funding projects that teach children about renewable
energy created from the wind, sun and other environmentally
friendly sources," Moore noted. "With the demand for energy
increasing and concern for the environment growing, renewable
energy will be playing an increasingly important role in meeting
future energy needs here in Michigan and throughout the country."
Mini-grant applications must include a detailed description of the
proposed project, including the expected outcomes and an itemized
budget. Grants typically range from $50 to $250, but some proposals
could be funded for more. All applications must be postmarked by
Friday, November 30, 2007. Grants will be awarded in early 2008.
