Andover Ventures Inc. (TSX-V: AOX) announced on Friday that it has more than doubled its land position to over 36,000 acres in Northwest Alaska.

Alaska, home to some of the world's richest mineral deposits, plays host to some of the most prolific mining and exploration companies in the world, such as NovaGold (NYSE Amex: NG) and Anglo American (LSE: AAL) as well as up-and-coming exploration companies such as Andover Ventures and Northern Dynasty Minerals (NYSE Amex: NAK).

A preliminary economic assessment, released in April, 2011 by NovaGold, estimated total "payable metal production" over the life of the company's Ambler project at 1.7 billion pounds of copper, 2.0 billion pounds of zinc, 291 million pounds of lead, 266,000 ounces of gold and 22 million ounces of silver. These findings by NovaGold have encouraged Andover to up its stake in this region.
