1800/1700 Magyar Telekom 4Q Earnings
A meeting of lawmakers from Central Europe on the situation in
eastern Ukraine and the latest earnings by Deutsche Telekom's AG
(DTEGY) Hungarian unit Magyar Telekom Nyrt. (MTELEKOM.BU) will top
the region's highlights Wednesday.
Members of foreign relations parliamentary committees in
Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic will meet in the
Slovak capital Bratislava. The lawmakers, gathered under the
regional Visegrad Group, will discuss their views ahead of the next
month's European Union decision whether to tighten and extend the
bloc's sanctions against Moscow for its support of pro-Russian
rebels in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Russia has denied
any backing of the rebels.
Magyar Telekom may beat its full-year 2014 guidance for an up to
3% drop in revenue and operating profit as analysts expect the
telecommunications company to unveil robust earnings in the three
months to end-December.
A poll among seven analysts by Portfolio, a Hungarian business
news portal, showed that net profit likely had risen to 2.6 billion
forints ($9.6 million) in the fourth quarter from HUF300 million a
year earlier. The analysts also see the company's fourth-quarter
earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or
Ebitda, at HUF40.8 billion, up from HUF38.8 billion in the
year-earlier period. Mobile data revenue probably rose on Hungary's
economic recovery while fixed-line voice, information technology
services and energy revenues declined. Magyar Telekom uses its
branches to sell utility service packages to retail customers.
