Nighthawk Systems to Debut Forensic Watermarking at HITEC
16 June 2008 - 11:45PM
Business Wire
Nighthawk Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: NIHK) (Nighthawk), a leading
provider of wireless and IP-based control devices and solutions,
announced today that it will debut the Verimatrix VideoMarkTM
forensic watermarking technology to the hospitality industry at
Nighthawks booth at the HITEC Show at the Austin Convention Center
in Austin, Texas, June 17 through June 19, 2008. Guest-Teks
OneviewTM Media platform, utilizing Nighthawks IP3000 high
definition set-top box, is expected to be the first hospitality
platform to incorporate this technology. Nighthawk will be
exhibiting in booth #1844 at HITEC. VideoMark is the industrys
first secure and invisible content tracking solution that enables
forensic, user-specific marking of video within each set-top box
client in a pay-TV system. As part of the layered security approach
offered with the VCAS for IPTV, VideoMark is implemented in a
highly efficient manner on the Sigma Design-based Nighthawk set-top
box. We have worked closely with our partners, including major
studios and broadcasters, to create this end-to-end security
solution, which has been adapted to the stringent needs of the
hospitality video industry, noted Steve Oetegenn, Chief Sales and
Marketing Officer at Verimatrix. The combination of VCAS security
and the Nighthawk set-top provides a significantly enhanced
protection regime for state-of-the-art video delivery systems. The
VideoMark payload is robust against a wide range of video content
manipulations, with recovery of the unique client identification
possible from all unauthorized analog and digital distribution
formats. Because any pirated copies can be traced to a unique user,
and not just a system operator, content owners are assured of
protection that extends beyond the digital network. Unlike
encryption, which creates an envelope around content that can
effectively secure delivery from point to point, a watermark is
embedded in the content itself and remains even if it has been
decrypted, decoded and possibly re-encoded to another file. The
approach of re-recording an analog playback is called the "analog
hole," which VideoMark can survive, enabling identification of
unauthorized copies of, for example, camcorder captured material.
H. Douglas Saathoff, Nighthawks CEO, stated, We are extremely
pleased to provide Guest-Tek with the first VideoMark-integrated
set-top box within the hospitality industry, as we believe this
piracy-fighting tool will be highly valued by hoteliers throughout
the industry. We are excited to add this powerful content
protection to our solution, said Arnon Levy, CEO of Guest-Tek. We
feel that our customers will benefit from having access to a wider
selection of HD content as the requirements for content protection
increase over time. About Nighthawk Systems Nighthawk is a leading
