Grafton Group plc ("the Company") has been informed on 7 October 1999 by Bank
of Ireland Asset Management Limited of 26 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin 2, that it
had a notifiable interest in 2,020,617 Grafton Units representing 11.69% of
the issued share capital of the Company.  The Units are registered in the name
of Bank of Ireland Nominees as registered owner only, on behalf of a range of
clients who are each the beneficial owner of a portion of the shareholding.
