              1997 PRELIMINARY RESULTS FOR THE 53 WEEKS 
                       ENDED 3 JANUARY 1998

Directors Statement

The company has not traded during the period and interest received on cash
balances was sufficient to pay the dividend on the Preference Shares.

The dividend due to the Preference Shareholders for the 27 weeks to 5 July 1997
was paid on 1 July 1997.  The dividend due to Preference Shareholders for the 26
weeks to 3 January 1998 was paid on 1 January 1998.

The Directors have decided not to declare a dividend on the Ordinary Shares.
