Ericsson introduces the T29 for GSM 900/1800 markets
Today, Ericsson introduced its new T29 mobile phone in Europe. It is the
first phone to feature Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) for sending
pictures and sound to other mobile phones. The T29 also features Mobile
Chat, WAP 1.1, and four games. The T29 will be available in all GSM
900/1800-markets during the second quarter, 2001, and it is packed with
features designed to make life easier.
EMS utilizes the existing SMS messaging service and infrastructure to
let users enhance their text messages with pictures and sounds. The
first mobile phones on the market supporting EMS are the Ericsson T29
and T20e. In the future EMS will be a standard feature in Ericsson
mobile phones.
EMS messages can be used either to send or to receive creative messages
or to exchange pictures, and ring signals. Unlike similar technologies
on the market today, EMS is an open standard so EMS messages can be read
in phones that do not support EMS. In addition T29 also supports group-
SMS text messages.
The T29 includes a WAP browser (WAP 1.1) with WTLS security protocol.
Wherever you are, you can access hundreds of WAP sites offering services
and products covering news, entertainment, shopping, banking and much
more. Sending and receiving e-mails are also very convenient.
Confidential information, such as credit card or bank account numbers,
are encrypted when sent over the air, and users can verify that they are
in contact with the right WAP gateway.
The mobile chat feature lets you enjoy instant messaging while on the
move. Two users can enjoy a conversation in a situation where quick and
quiet communication is more suitable. The phone also has five fun games
- Tetris, Erix, Ballpop, Catcher and Maze. The T29sc offers a complete
Chinese interface that makes it possible to send and receive Chinese SMS
messages and to store Chinese names in the phone book.
The T29 has a new design with deep-colored inlays, silver-toned and
shine-through keys and slight wings on the active flip. It comes in two
color variants with different deep-colored inlays: Amethyst Purple and
Sapphire Blue. At a weight of only 95g, including its slim battery, the
T29 is compact and lightweight. The standby time is 150 hours and the
talk time 7 hours.
The new phone fits seamlessly with Ericsson accessories, including
Bluetooth(TM) headset, FM radio, MP3, Chatboard(TM), car holder and several
handsfree solutions.
