         BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 73rd Quarterly Dividend


Atlanta, Georgia - February 25, 2002 - BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS), one of
the most widely held companies in the nation, declared a regular quarterly
dividend of $0.19 per common share.


The dividend is payable May 1, 2002 to shareholders of record on April 11.

This is the 73rd consecutive quarterly dividend declared by BellSouth since its
formation in 1984. As of September 30, the company has nearly 1.9 billion shares
outstanding in approximately one million registered shareholder accounts.
