Partner to Develop Complete Wireless Multimedia Platforms
Solution Targeted to Handset Makers Answers Demand for Fully Featured Phones and
Speeds Time to Market
Issy-les-Moulineaux, France and Ra'anana, Israel - 2 December, 2003 - Wavecom SA
(NASDAQ: WVCM; Euronext: AVM; ISIN: FR0000073066) and Emblaze Semiconductor, an
Emblaze Group company (LSE: BLZ) and a leading provider of mobile multimedia and
application ICs, today announces a strategic partnership to co-operate in the
development of two multimedia mobile phone platforms with full features, to be
launched in 2004 and targeted at handset manufacturers.
The two platforms will be based on Wavecom's Feature Phones Development Lab and
Emblaze Semiconductor's ER4521 and ER4525 multimedia microprocessors. The
platforms will also enable handset manufacturers a faster time to the market.
The first of the two platforms (Feature 700) will offer solutions to handset
manufacturers who are facing increasing demands to produce phones with MP3
playback, video streaming, video record, multi format melody and many more
features. It will also provide solutions for multimedia handsets requiring
worldwide coverage, i.e. quad band and provide support for advanced multimedia
technologies such as WAP 2.0, Java and e-mail. Feature 700 will be available in
the first quarter of 2004.
The second platform (feature 705), available in the second half of 2004, will
allow MPEG-4 video capture and playback at CIF resolution (15 fps). Other
features will include JVT video decoding, 1.3 Mpixel still image capture and
enhanced graphics engine with VGA-size LCD support.
