   Recommended Cash Offer for Brent International PLC by
      Warburg Dillon Read on behalf of Chemetall GmbH

Chemetall GmbH ("Chemetall"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Dynamit Nobel AG, announces that the recommended cash
offer by Warburg Dillon Read on behalf of Chemetall to
acquire the entire issued and to be issued share capital
of Brent International PLC ("Brent") as set out in the
offer document dated 21 July 1999 has become unconditional
as to acceptances.  The Offer remains open for acceptance
until further notice.

By 3.00 p.m. on 11 August 1999, valid acceptances of the
Offer had been received in respect of 61,374,647 Brent
Ordinary Shares, representing approximately 90.52 per
cent. of the issued ordinary share capital of Brent.  This
includes 22,539,705 shares, equivalent to approximately
33.3 per cent. of the issued ordinary share capital of
Brent, in respect of which Chemetall had received
irrevocable undertakings to accept the Offer.

Save as disclosed above, neither Chemetall nor any persons
deemed to be acting in concert with Chemetall held any
Brent Ordinary Shares, or any rights over such shares,
immediately prior to or since the commencement of the
Offer Period.

Terms defined in the offer document dated 21 July 1999
have the same meanings when used herein unless the context
requires otherwise.
