For Immediate Release     24 August 2001





             Beta Viet Nam Fund Limited ("BVNF" or the "Company")




The Board of BVNF announces that it has received an approach from Indochina
Finance (Thailand) Limited ("IFTL") that IFTL intends to make a cash offer for
the Company at a value of US$1.25 per share and US$0.01 per warrant. The cash
offer will be conditional on its acceptance by a majority of the ordinary
shareholders of BVNF.




A further announcement will be made in due course.
