    CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2003--Sara Lee Corporation
announced today that Laurette T. Koellner has been elected a director
of the corporation, effective immediately. This appointment brings the
number of Sara Lee Corporation directors to 15.

Koellner, 48, is executive vice president and member of the Office
of the Chairman of The Boeing Company, the world leader in commercial
aircraft, military aircraft and missiles, and space markets. Koellner
serves as Boeing's chief people and administration officer and she is
also responsible for corporate international relationships with
Africa, the Americas and Russia.

Prior to her current role, Koellner was president of Boeing's
Shared Services Group, a business unit with nearly 18,000 employees,
where she was responsible for a service business of $7.9 billion and
managed an additional $4 billion in assets and real estate.

skills will be a significant asset to Sara Lee Corporation's board of

Koellner began her career in the aerospace industry in 1978 when
she joined McDonnell Douglas as an analyst. She was promoted several
times over the next eight years, and in 1986 McDonnell Douglas
appointed her to manage contracts and pricing for its Missile Systems
Company.

Koellner continued to hold numerous positions of increasing
responsibility at McDonnell Douglas and later Boeing, following the
merger of the two companies in 1997. She became director of human
resources for McDonnell Douglas in 1994, and two years later she was
promoted to vice president - general auditor, leading internal audit,
management control systems and executive development. In 1999, she was
named Boeing's vice president - corporate controller, where she was
responsible for financial and cost accounting, cost policy, company
wide cost estimating, common business systems, insurance and risk
management.

Koellner earned a bachelor's degree in business management from
the University of Central Florida, and a master's of business
administration degree from Stetson University. She holds a Certified
Professional Contracts Manager designation from the National Contracts
Management Association.

Koellner is active in several organizations including serving as a
board member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and as a
participant in the Chicago-based New Leaders for New Schools Corporate
Mentorship Program. She holds memberships in The Economic Club of
Chicago, The Society for Human Resource Management and the
Presidential Advisory Council of University of Portland. She also
serves on the board of directors of Exostar, an aerospace industry
e-business trading exchange.
