BG Group PLC (BG.LN) said Monday it has delivered Chile's first ever cargo of liquefied natural gas to the Quintero import terminal 110 kilometers northwest of the capital Santiago.

BG Group has a 21-year LNG sales and purchase agreement to supply the terminal with up to 1.7 million metric tons per annum of LNG. Once fully operational, the terminal will have the capacity to meet up to 40% of Chile's current demand for natural gas, the company said in a statement.

BG group has a 40% stake in the terminal. The Chilean national oil and gas company ENAP, the Chilean subsidiary of Spanish utility Endesa SA (ELE.MC) and Argentinean gas distribution company Metrogas SA (MGS) each have 20%.
