MarinHealth Medical Center announced a significant enhancement
to its cardiovascular service line with its introduction of a
state-of-the-art cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program.
Cardiac MRI is a cutting-edge, noninvasive diagnostic tool that
provides high-resolution images of the heart while beating,
allowing for a thorough and incomparable evaluation of myocardial
structure, tissue composition, and function. No matter what heart
condition or indication, cardiac MRI is unmatched in its ability to
aid with diagnosis and treatment planning.
Cardiac MRI is the gold standard for cardiac imaging. It
provides valuable insight into blood flow, myocardial and
pericardial function, and tissue characterization. It produces
detailed images of the structure and function of the heart with
respect to its surrounding tissue. This advanced technology is
instrumental in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as
heart failure and cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, infiltrative
disease, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, cardiac
masses, pericardial diseases, and other pathologies. It can also be
used to monitor patient progress and response to therapies over
time.
“Our commitment to staying at the forefront of advanced
technology is unwavering. The addition of cardiac MRI showcases our
dedication to ensuring our physicians and patients have access to
the best possible technology available so we can continue to
provide the best possible patient outcomes,” commented David Klein,
MD, CEO of MarinHealth Medical Center.
“In a short amount of time, we can assess cardiac function,
learn about tissue composition, quantify blood flow, and gather
vital diagnostic and prognostic data for patients,” said Haynes
Cardiovascular Institute cardiologist Dr. Pankaj Malhotra. “Others
have described cardiac MRI as the closest we currently are to
taking the heart of the body, examining it, and putting it back in
its place.”
“The heart can be viewed from any angle,” commented Dr. Arvind
Nishtala. “More importantly, cardiac MRI is radiation-free, making
it a safe and effective option for patients.”
With the introduction of cardiac MRI, the Haynes Cardiovascular
Institute offers a complete spectrum of cardiac imaging services,
including cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA), rest and
stress transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal
echocardiography, rest and stress electrocardiography (EKG), heart
monitors, myocardial perfusion imaging, electrophysiology studies
with electroanatomic mapping, invasive coronary angiography,
intravascular coronary imaging, and peripheral vascular
angiography. The addition of cardiac MRI allows the Institute’s
cardiac services to become even more comprehensive and unmatched in
the area.
The MarinHealth Foundation made cardiac MRI at MarinHealth
Medical Center possible by raising $220,000 of the approximate
$400,000 needed to purchase the technology, thanks to the support
of generous donors.
