PATIENTLINE REACHES 50,000 BEDS
12th December 2003 Patientline plc
Patientline today announced that the number of beds in NHS hospitals capable of
receiving its service had reached the 50,000 milestone. The service is now
operational in 107 hospitals, including approximately one third of all hospitals
with more than 200 beds in the UK.
Following closely on the announcement of its half year results, which included
44,000 live terminals at 30 September, this represents further rapid progress in
the roll-out of the service.
Derek Lewis, Patientline Chairman, commented: 'This further progress in our
roll-out is evidence of the effectiveness of the systems and resources that have
been put in place over the past two years.'
'The scale of our installed base of bedside units leaves us particularly well
placed to support the National Programme for IT in the NHS in England. Our
systems, which provide a PC at each bedside, enable clinicians to access and
update critical medical information at the point of care, with savings in time
and improvements in accuracy.
We were delighted with the announcement of the selected Local Service Providers
in the London and North East regions. Our existing relationship at Chelsea and
Westminster Hospital with IDX, the software partner of BT in the winning London
bid, will enable early realisation of those benefits in London.'
Notes for Editors
There are just over 300 acute hospitals in the UK with 200 or more beds. Some
80% of these are in England and are covered by the NHS Plan requirement to
provide bedside television and telephone services by the end of 2004.
