Seaboard Farms Reaches Major Milestone with More Than 1.5 Million
Hours Accident Free GUYMON, Okla., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Seaboard
Farms' Guymon, Okla. pork processing plant recently celebrated a
significant milestone in the area of plant safety. Total man hours
surpassed 1.5 million without a lost time accident. The Guymon
plant is no stranger to safety excellence. According to the Bureau
of Labor Statistics, the meat packing industry's rate of injuries
has decreased to a mere 20 (per 200,000 man-hours). In the past 12
months Seaboard Farms has consistently maintained a rate of under
5. Seaboard Farms' President Rod Brenneman was quick to give credit
where credit is due. "Plant safety is a factor of the quality of
your labor force. We at Seaboard Farms have long believed our
employees to be the best in the industry. This milestone is simply
one more testament to that fact." The Seaboard Farms Guymon
facility, as the newest such plant in the country, is familiar with
lofty expectations. According to Randy Fehlberg, plant manager,
being the best is a daily goal. "From efficiency, to productivity,
to food safety, to plant safety, in my opinion we are second to
none," stated Fehlberg. "Our daily goal is simply to be the best,
and surpassing 1.5 million man-hours without a lost time accident
shows the success of our efforts better than any other
measurement." A model of modern food processing technology, the
facility located in Guymon, Okla. has been operating at full
double-shift capacity for approximately five years while employing
2,300 people. Seaboard Farms, headquartered in Shawnee Mission,
Kan., is a leading producer and processor of fresh pork in the
